The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) and the Boston University School of Law submitted a joint report to the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR). The report provides information to the committee for its review on China ahead of the 73rd Session (13 February 2023 – 03 March 2023). The report highlights China’s policies on arbitrary detention and forced labour, coercive mass birth control, discriminatory mass surveillance, and invasion of privacy, targeting the Uyghur and other Turkic and Muslim people.
The submission is for consideration on the report on China concerning the rights of the Uyghur and other Turkic and Muslim peoples and it was was submitted on January 16, 2023 for consideration during CESCR’s 73rd Session which is scheduled to take place between February 13 to March 3, 2023.
The submission notes that China is in violation of: Articles 1 (The Right to Self-Determination); 2 (The Right to Non-Discrimination); 6&7 (The Right to Work); 10 (The Right to Protection of the Family and Children); 12 (The Right to Health); 13 (The Right to Education); and 15 (The Right to Cultural Life).
