September 1, 2022: The current COVID outbreak in Tibet, first in two years, was first reported on August 7, 2022. Since then Tibetans and all visitors in the region have been caught up in lockdowns. All Tibetan cities including the famed Potala Palace have been locked down. The lack of access for independent journalists and observers to occupied Tibetan areas has made it extremely difficult to gauge the severity of the outbreak in Tibet.
