Canada Indo-Pacific Strategy Views China as a “Disruptive Power”

The Canadian government released its Indo-Pacific Strategy and the 26-page document views China as an “increasingly disruptive global power.”

The strategy outlines Canada’s approach to China domestically, bilaterally, regionally and multilaterally. At the domestic level the issues raised include China’s interference with Canadian democracy and citizens. At the bilateral level the new strategy makes a commitment to “speak up for universal human rights, including those of Uyghurs, Tibetans and other religious and ethnic minorities. Canada will continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the people of Hong Kong, who are faced with China’s imposition of the National Security Law and, more broadly, the deterioration of individual and collective freedoms.”
