March 8, 2024: The Asia Freedom Institute published a document titled The Next Dalai Lama. Collected Statements, Writings and Documents. The 139-page document is a comprehensive collection of statements made by the Dalai Lama, Tibetan religious leaders, the Central Tibetan Administration and the United States and foreign governments on the issue of reincarnation or succession of the 14th Dalai Lama.
“The issue of the succession or reincarnation of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and the continuity of the institution of the Dalai Lama is a defining issue for millions who follow Tibet, Tibetan Buddhism, religious freedom, China and global geopolitics. While there is a growing amount of content on this issue, the information available is dispersed and not easily accessible. I hope this publication will serve as a helpful reference source for policy makers, researchers and the general public,” said Kelsang D. Aukatsang, AFI President, in a media statement.
Other sections of the document include statements by Buddhist associations, international NGOs, international Tibet groups, Chinese organizations and scholars as well as statements by the PRC Government and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The document also includes a selected list of articles , papers, reports and books on the issue of reincarnation of the Dalai Lama and related topics.
