AFI 2024 Research Interns
Lhakpa Dolma
Lhakpa is researching Chinese government policy of establishing national parks on the Tibetan Plateau and Tibet’s historical ties with Great Britain. Lhakpa is based in Kathmandu and is currently pursuing her Bachelors in community development from the Kathmandu University School of Arts.
Sonam Gonpo
Sonam is doing research related to Project Reincarnation and Tibet’s historical ties with Bhutan and Sikkim. Sonam worked as a translator and transcriber for Wadhwani AI/Monlam AI and is the chief research and content creator at Mentor Mpact. He has a BA in International Relations from Ashoka University.
Sonam Topgyal
Sonam is researching Tibet’s ties with Mongolia and working on AFI’s Project Reincarnation. He served as an English teacher at the Gyudmed Tantric Monastery in Southern India. He has a BA from Hindu College, University of Delhi and is a recipient of the 2020 Gaden Phodrang Award and 2020 Sikyong Scholarship.
Tenzing Yangdon
Tenzing is researching Chinese government policy of assimilation of Mongolians, Tibetans and Uyghurs and Tibet’s historical ties with India and the United States. Tenzin has conducted field research for the School of International Training (SIT). She completed a three-month virtual program with RSC Pathways Program affiliated with University of Oxford in 2023. She graduated with a BA in English Honors from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, University of Delhi.
