Hundreds of demonstrators clashed with police reportedly on Wednesday, October 26 in Lhasa, Tibet’s capital city. The demonstrators are said to be mostly ethnic Chinese migrant workers and Tibetans and this represents the largest protest in Lhasa since 2008. The city is currently in the third month of a brutal lockdown with no signs of the authorities easing up on the restrictions. The BBC verified some of the videos of the protests in Lhasa which have been removed from Chinese social media but were reposted on Twitter. Lhasa has been in lockdown since late August. There are reports of several Tibetans who have killed themselves since the beginning of the lockdown. AFI Fellow, Palden Sonam’s, piece on the China’s COVID policy was published in Taipei Times.
